To set up WhatsApp Coexistence with 360Dialog, start Meta’s sign-up from your 360Dialog account, enter your number, and scan a QR code in the WhatsApp Business app. Coexistence then lets your team keep chatting in the app while your CRM or chatbot answers customers on the same number. Meta now asks for your number first and sees on its own that the number already runs on the app. Some businesses still see the older screen order while Meta rolls this change out. 360Dialog, an Official Meta Solution Partner, provides this Coexistence sign-up as part of its WhatsApp Business API access.
Key Takeaways
- You need a recent WhatsApp Business app on a phone with a camera, plus a Facebook or Meta Business Suite login.
- Pick your Meta business portfolio with care, because it is fixed once the number is registered.
- Sign-up and the sync take several minutes, and you decide whether up to six months of one-to-one chats and your contacts come across.
- 360Dialog, an Official Meta Solution Partner, connects your number from €49 / $59 per number each month plus Meta’s message fees, paid through our credit line.
Why Connect Your App Number with Coexistence?
Coexistence links the number you already use in the WhatsApp Business app to the Cloud API, Meta’s hosted version of the WhatsApp Business API.[1] Your software sends replies, reminders, and campaigns through the API, and your team can answer one-to-one chats in the app. This allows you to keep the number your customers already know.
Meta’s documentation calls the feature ‘Onboard WhatsApp Business app users,’ while partners and support teams call it Coexistence or Coex. 360Dialog provides the connection, and you choose the CRM or chatbot that answers. Our guide to running the app and the API on one number covers what changes in the app, what it costs, and who it suits.
What Do You Need Before You Start?
You need four things before sign-up: the right app version on a camera phone, a Meta login, a business portfolio, and a 360Dialog plan. With all four ready, the sign-up runs in one go:
- The app on a camera phone. Update the app if it runs a version older than 2.24.17, the minimum Meta accepts. We recommend the latest version, on a smartphone whose camera can scan the QR code at the end of sign-up.[2]
- A Facebook or Meta Business Suite login. Meta’s sign-up window opens with this login. You then allow 360Dialog to access the WhatsApp data the connection needs.[3]
- A Meta business portfolio. Your portfolio is the Meta business account that owns your WhatsApp assets. Use the sending business’s portfolio, and complete its legal name, address, website, and business phone number. Decide before you start, because once the number is registered, it stays with that portfolio.
- A 360Dialog account and plan. API messages on a Coexistence number are charged as usual. The number needs a 360Dialog plan, from €49 / $59 per month plus Meta’s message fees.[4] As a Solution Partner, we share our credit line with you during sign-up, and you can start messaging as soon as onboarding is complete.[5]
To find the plan that fits your number, compare our plans before you start.
Platforms that onboard their own clients run this sign-up inside their product through Embedded Signup, the Meta sign-up window a partner builds into its own software. Meta asks these platforms for Solution Partner or Tech Provider status and session logging. Their webhook, the web address where their software receives Meta’s events, must be ready to process the sync.
How Does Meta’s Sign-Up Recognize a Coexistence Number?
Meta’s sign-up now starts with your phone number, spots on its own that the number already runs on the app, and moves you into Coexistence. You no longer need the separate option in Meta’s window that older guides tell users to look for.
This detection works only when the partner running your sign-up has turned Coexistence on; 360Dialog offers Coexistence onboarding, and signing up through us meets that condition.
Meta has been rolling out the number-first order since September 3, 2026, and some businesses still see the earlier order, where business assets come before the number.[6] If your window shows that older order, choose to connect the WhatsApp Business app you already use, then enter your number and confirm the connection in the app. For partners, Meta’s newest sign-up version, released October 20, 2026, switches Coexistence on by default.[7]
How to Set Up Coexistence with 360Dialog, Step by Step
Open Meta’s sign-up window from your 360Dialog account and finish with a QR scan in the app. If a platform connects you through us, open the window from your provider’s software. Knowing the six steps ahead lets you keep the right phone and details at hand.
- Open Meta’s sign-up and log in. Start the sign-up from 360Dialog and log in with your Facebook or Meta Business Suite credentials. Then approve the WhatsApp data 360Dialog can access.
- Enter your number. Type the number you use in the WhatsApp Business app. Confirm that the name, profile picture, phone number, website, and category Meta shows belong to your account.
- Choose or create your business portfolio. Select the portfolio that owns your business, or create one with your business name, an email address, the country, and the website.
- Scan the QR code in the app. Scan the code in Meta’s window with the WhatsApp Business app. Meta also sends you a WhatsApp message with a link to the same code. In the app, you choose whether to share your chat history, and Meta’s window moves on by itself after the scan.
- Confirm your business details. Set your time zone. Your WhatsApp account name is shown read-only.
- Accept the terms and finish. Review Meta’s terms and select Finish on the success screen.
Coexistence sign-ups skip Meta’s display name screen. If you share your history, up to six months of past one-to-one chats and every contact with a WhatsApp number can sync, while group chats remain in the app.
The WhatsApp account in step 5 is part of Meta’s new account model, which Meta still labels beta. The model splits the familiar WhatsApp Business account (WABA) in two: a WhatsApp account that holds your number, and a Messaging account that holds templates, billing, and webhook settings. Your existing account becomes the Messaging account and keeps its ID.
Once you select Finish, 360Dialog creates the integration and your number becomes available on our platform. If you chose to share your history, the sync starts.
What Should You Check Right After Connecting?
Check that the app shows the connection, the sync has finished, and your linked devices are back. Checking right away keeps you well inside the 24 hours Meta gives your provider to sync contacts and history. After that window, the number has to be disconnected and signed up again.
- The connection notice. The app refreshes on its own and shows that your number is connected to the API.
- The sync. Sign-up and sync take several minutes, depending on how much history you share, your internet speed, and webhook processing. Keep the app open until the sync ends. If setup runs past 5 minutes, contact our support team.
- Linked devices. Sign-up unlinks every other device your team uses with the account. Your team can re-link up to four supported devices. WhatsApp for Windows and WhatsApp for WearOS can’t be linked.
- Open chats. If a customer wrote just before you connected, your software can answer only with a template, a message format Meta approves in advance. Your team can still reply to that chat from the app.
- Status fields. For developers, a number on both sides shows
is_on_biz_appas true andplatform_typeasCLOUD_API.
Keep using the app on the main phone, because Meta disconnects the API link after about 14 days without activity.
What If Sign-Up Does Not Go Through?
When sign-up stops, check the app version, the screen order, and whether a previous provider still holds the number to rule out each issue.
If the app runs a version older than 2.24.17, update it and start again. If Meta’s window shows business assets before asking for your number, you are on the older screen order: Choose to connect the WhatsApp Business app you already use. A number that still shares a previous partner’s credit line can fail to switch until you back up your chats, disconnect and reconnect the number in the app, and sign up again.[8]
Our Coexistence onboarding guide covers the 360Dialog side of the sign-up. Our support team can help you if you get stuck anywhere in the process.
To hand routine replies to your software while your team keeps chatting in the app, get API access with 360Dialog and connect your number.
Frequently Asked Questions
How Long Does WhatsApp Coexistence Setup Take?
WhatsApp Coexistence setup takes several minutes, covering Meta’s sign-up screens and syncing your contacts and chat history. The time depends on how much history you share, your internet speed, and webhook processing. Keep the WhatsApp Business app open until the sync ends, and if setup on 360Dialog runs past 5 minutes, contact our support team.
Does My Chat History Come Across During Setup?
Your chat history comes across only if you agree to share it in the WhatsApp Business app during sign-up. Meta can then sync up to six months of past one-to-one chats and every contact that has a WhatsApp number. Group chats stay in the app without syncing, and your team keeps working with them as before.
Which BSPs Support WhatsApp Coexistence?
A BSP, the Business Solution Provider that connects businesses to the WhatsApp Business API, supports Coexistence when it holds Meta’s Solution Partner or Tech Provider status and turns the feature on in its sign-up. 360Dialog is an Official Meta Solution Partner that connects Coexistence numbers for businesses directly and for platforms that onboard their own clients.
What Happens to My Linked Devices After Setup?
Coexistence sign-up unlinks every companion device on your number, meaning the other devices linked to the account, when onboarding completes. Your team can then re-link up to four supported devices from the WhatsApp Business app. WhatsApp for Windows and WhatsApp for WearOS can’t be linked as companion devices on a number that runs on both the app and the API.
